Off of the EP I have decided to make this my “single”. How have I done this? By declaring it so. Look for a sweet video in a month or so.

This EP is something I have worked on for awhile. I feel that I can now “release” it. Prior to this moment – it could not be done. I wasn’t confident enough. I have gotten to a point in my life where I believe its better for ideas to be presented and judged based on the craft and the fact you did something. Too many ideas are left in the idea stage… and are never completed. People tend to convince you that your ideas are “stupid” or unattainable – I have never liked those people. We only have so much time in our lives so you better take that time and do something with it.

The songs were made in a rather conceptual way. I only have one take to get it right and whatever I play at that moment is what gets recorded. The songs are “jazz” like in their nature. Anything you hear was done extemporaneously. I do not know why I did this. Maybe in some weird way it was because I didn’t want to spend time perfecting a song. Perfection can not be achieved. Maybe there was something emotional was being emitted that could be taken away if I did the same chords in another take? I have numerous songs that are basically dead because this way of recording. Experimentation sometimes leads to dead ends – but you learn what works and what doesn’t.

My main influences are, of course, Sigur Ros and bands like Explosions In The Sky. I also listen to a lot of shoegaze and electronica which could explain the guitar effects and amps I used along with the repetitive drums.

In the end I just want you to enjoy them. All they are are drums, guitar, and one sentence repeated over and over. All the sounds you hear are either a drum machine or an acoustic-electric hooked up to my iMac computer using the GarageBand program. These four songs should be listened to back to back in preferably with headphones in a darkroom. They are nothing more than emotive, artistic expression. They mean what they mean – to you and to me. Again I do not pretend these are some amazing musical revelation that could change the way you view the world, they are just moments in time – a reflection of what we have in life.

By putting this out there as a collective project I have checked off another one of my “things to do” in my lifetime – release a musical project I am proud of. I look forward to creating another EP the next couple years.

I would also like to extend an invitation to anyone else who would like to collaborate with imagery, video, music, whatever it may be. Please contact me through the comments section.

Thanks for downloading.

Song Concepts:

“Introduction”-This song just deals with that we change emotions at a whim. And sometimes they change who we are. I would hope that this song faces and breaks emotion. It continually rises and falls – like conversation throughout the day. There are very few days of completeness and this song reflects that with its own lack of structure.

“Fireworks” – This song is about truly being in love.

“Anthem Yell” – I recorded this song during moments of doubt caused by others. Other people doubting me has always been a very great motivator. At one point the song becomes a cacophony of sound only to regain its form. This was not intentional, but due to the conceptual process of creating these songs it happened. For better or for worse.

“Fire Me Up” – The most electronica influenced song out of the bunch. The repetitive “Fire Me Up” at the end of the song is supposed to symbolize that people wait for the perfect storm. Sometimes you have to create your destiny. It slowly fades out. the boredom in the voice is not an accident.
